beaches!
so we went to our second beach yesterday. last weekend we went to Playa Caribe, which was gorgeous but much more remote, with no restaurants around, just a small beach with some umbrellas, and waves that were enough to topple you over- i got out of the water one time and i had all kinds of twigs in my bathings suit because it could not withstand the strength of the waves…ooopsy
Our second beach yesterday was Boca Chica, a very well known, and common beach for people that live in santo domingo. We heard very mixed reviews about it before going- half the people we talked to loved it and the other half, not so much. i can totally see why. The actual sand and water are something close to heaven, the whitest sand, with the clearest blue water that stretches for ever at about waist deep. The other piece of it is the resorts lining a large part of it, the wild reggae music pumping out of every restaurant, the vendors that are asking if you want to buy something every minute or so, and the crowds of people in every piece of the ocean, making a party that seems only Dominicans can do so naturally - i couldnt help but think that some rap music videos must be filmed there.
and to think, this is only the beginning of the beach - and supposedly not the most glamorous ones. We got so excited yesterday after boca chica that we decided to plan out our whole week of traveling based almost solely around the top 4 beaches taht were named in our lonely planet guide :)
